Remittances to Armenia drop by 2.5 percent

YEREVAN, May 19. /ARKA/. Remittances to Armenia sent in the first four months of 2016 fell by 2.5% or $10 million from the year before, according to Central Bank chairman Arthur Javadyan.

“The 2.5% decline can not be considered serious, and therefore it does not cause concern. One can say that the situation is getting better, in particular, due to the strengthening of the Russian ruble,” he said to parliament.

According to official data, remittances to Armenia in the first 4 months of 2016 fell to $378 million from $388 million in the first 4 months of 2015.

According to the National Statistical Service, remittances from Russia to Armenia in the first quarter of 2016 rose 8.1% year-on-year to $136.9 million. -0-
