Armenian defense ministry offers preferential mortgage loan program to servicemen

YEREVAN, April 6. /ARKA/. The Armenian defense ministry has presented the targeted state program “Available Housing for Servicemen” for discussion.

The program allows military officers in Armenia to purchase or build apartments by taking long-term mortgage loans at preferential terms.

Under this program, servicemen will be able to purchase apartments from builders or buy apartments or houses at secondary market in the country’s provinces.

Besides, they themselves can build their houses by taking mortgage loans for 20 years and at a 9% annual interest rate.

The government will subsidize 4% of the interest rate, while the remaining 5% will be taken from borrowers instead of income tax.

The program also implies subsidy of prepayment of 10% of the cost of the apartment or house.

The maximum amount for acquiring houses is AMD 28, 500,000.

As many as 400 servicemen, 37 police officers, 25 national security officers and five penal system officers can be the program beneficiaries every year.
