Central bank issues commemorative coin dedicated to centenary of Museum of History of Armenia

YEREVAN, September 19. /ARКА/. The Central Bank of Armenia has issued a commemorative coins dedicated to the centenary of the Museum of History of Armenia, the press office of the regulator reported on Thursday.

Items of the museum’s collection “The Sculpture Group with a Chariot” (the 15-14th centuries B.C., bronze), “The Statue of a Chamois” (the 13-12th centuries B.C. bronze), “The Four-wheel Wagon” (15-14 centuries B.C., wooden), “The Leather Shoes” (the 36th century B.C.) and “The Plaquette with a Lion” (the 7 century B.C., bronze) are depicted on the coin’s head side.

A building of architects Mark Grigoryan and Eduard Sarapyan and the logotype of the museum looking as Armenian ornament are depicted on the reverse side of the coin.
This silver coin of 10,000 drams is issued in 500 copies. The author of sketches is Eduard Kurghinyan. Te coin has been minted in Lithuania.

The History Museum of Armenia was established in September 2019. The first director of the museum was ethnographer Yervand Lalayan. Some 400,000 items are kept in the museum. Since 1948 the museum has been publishing reports on archeological excavations and scientific studies.

Commemorative coins are collection items. They are issued in small numbers and they are not re-issued. Coin collectors can acquire the coins in Numismatist shop inside the Central Bank of Armenia. The shop is open for all. -0—
