Armenia to Introduce Electronic Seizure of Information Constituting Banking Secrets

YEREVAN, March 25. /ARКА/. At its session on Wednesday, the National Assembly of Armenia adopted in the first reading a legislative package amending the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia and related laws.

RA Deputy Justice Minister Gevorg Kocharyan stated that in the event of the seizure of information containing banking and related secrets, the law will also provide for the possibility of its seizure in electronic form.

“In recent years, the number of decisions to obtain information constituting banking secrets has increased sharply,” he noted.

According to Kocharyan, this has also increased the time and resources spent on processing and preparing the relevant information, as well as transmitting it to law enforcement agencies, which has complicated the work of both law enforcement and financial institutions.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that the introduction of the electronic format is aimed at reducing the time and resources spent on information transfer, as well as reducing human involvement in the process of transmitting sensitive data.

“We plan to introduce a special secure electronic communication channel through which sensitive data will be transferred from financial institutions to law enforcement agencies,” Kocharyan said.
