NPLs account for about 6% of Armenia’s bank portfolio – UBA

YEREVAN, May 13. /ARKA/. The share of non-performing loans (NPL) in the portfolios of Armenian banks has not changed significantly in the first quarter of this year, fluctuating within the range of 6%, the executive director of the Union of Banks of Armenia (UBA) Seyran Sargsyan said at a press conference on Friday.

“In a sense, the portfolios have improved because all the necessary write-offs have already been made, and the current amount of non-performing loans – about 6 percent – is quite low compared to other countries,” he said.

The Chairman of the Central Bank Martin Galstyan stated at the beginning of May this year that the quality of the loan portfolio of Armenian banks has improved.

According to the UBA, the lending of Armenian banks in the first quarter of 2022 amounted to about AMD 4.1 trillion, having increased by 3.1% or by AMD 123, and decreased by 0.7% or by AMD 27 billion compared to the first quarter of 2021. ($1 – 455.94 drams) -0-
