Armenian Finance Minister describes last year’s FDI rate of 5.1% of GDP as very high

YEREVAN, June 12. /ARKA/. The total foreign direct investments (FDI) inflows in Armenia in 2022 stood at US$1 billion, making 5.1% of GDP,  Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan said  on Monday.

“This is a very high indicator. Especially in recent years,” the minister said at a meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on financial, credit and budgetary issues.

According to him, the capital accumulation rate was also quite high. In other words, business people from Armenia invested their income in the development of their own capital opportunities.

“We are confident that we will notice the positive impact of these investments on the country’s economic potential in the coming years,” Hovhannisyan stressed.

According to official data, Armenia’s  economic growth in 2022 amounted to 12.6%, the highest over the past  15 years.The total volume of  investments amounted to 1.7 trillion drams (about 20% of GDP), while the volume of FDIs almost tripled to almost $1 billion ($1 – 387.04 drams) –
