New landfill will be built in Yerevan with the support of EI

YEREVAN, December 4. /ARKA/. Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan presented today to a European Investment Bank delegation several projects, part of which are being implemented and the other part are under consideration.

He said these projects are expected to improve the quality of life of Yerevan residents and may be of interest to the bank.

A reference was made to a landfill that will be built in Yerevan with the support of the European Investment Bank within the framework of solid waste management program.

Lionel Rapaille, Director for Enlargement and Neighborhood of the European Investment Bank (EIB) stressed that Yerevan is an important partner of the Bank and expressed confidence that the joint programs will have a lasting character.

As it was reported earlier  the European Investment Bank (EIB), the lending arm of the European Union (EU), signed a loan worth €25 million with Armenia for energy efficiency improvements in Yerevan.

The €25 million EIB loan and €11 million in EU grant funding will support energy efficiency improvements in six polyclinics and 32 kindergartens across Yerevan. Another €2 million will be allocated by the Yerevan Municipality.

The EIB has worked with Armenia since 2010. It operates in the country in line with the European Neighbourhood Policy, the Eastern Partnership and other EU bilateral agreements. In the last decade, the Bank has provided financing for a wide range of projects, from infrastructure and small businesses to water supply services and wastewater treatment. It also funds cross-border connections to build safer and more sustainable roads.

The first Yerevan energy efficiency project, which benefits from a €15 million investment from the EIB and the multi-donor Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) fund, is ongoing to improve the energy efficiency, seismic stability and sanitary conditions of 50 kindergartens in Yerevan. The project will improve the quality of life of over 1 million people living in the city. -0-
