Armenia’s total public  debt rose to $11.8 bln in 2023

YEREVAN, February 6. /ARKA/. Armenia’s total public debt as of December 31, 2023, stood at over $11.8 billion, up from over $10.6 billion in late December , 2022, the National Statistical Committee said.

Calculated in AMD,  the public debt in 2023 amounted to about 4.8 trillion. A year earlier the debt in AMD stood at about 4.2 trillion.

Of the total debt over $6.5 billion were the external debt (an increase of $126.7 million from the previous month, while the domestic debt increased by $511.5 million to about $5.4 billion.

In AMD equivalent, the external debt increased by 65. 8 billion drams from November 2023  amounting  to over 2, 6 trillion, while the domestic debt increased by 218.1 billion drams to about 2.2 trillion drams.

Of the external debt, the government’s debt increased by $107.4 million to over $5.9 billion by the end of December 2023. In AMD equivalent, the government’s debt increased by 56.9 billion drams to over 2.4 trillion drams.

The Central Bank’s debt increased by $19.2 million to $550.7 million.

Of the domestic debt,  $4.8 billion (up by $514 million) were owed to resident holders of government treasury bonds and $516.5 million were owned to resident holders of Eurobonds (down by $6.975 million).

Domestic guarantees stood at $17.8 million (up by $4.6illion). -0-
