Armenian banks’ lending in 2024 exceeded 6.5 trillion drams

YEREVAN, February 7. /ARKA/. The volume of loans issued by commercial banks in Armenia as of the end of December 2024 amounted to 6,538,702 million drams, compared to 6,016,519 million drams at the end of September, according to a report by the National Statistical Committee of the country.

At the same time, the volume of loans in foreign currency at the end of December amounted to 2.16 trillion drams (accounting for 33.02% of the total credit investments), compared to 2.05 trillion drams in September, while the volume of dram-denominated loans was 4.38 trillion drams (66.98%), compared to 3.97 trillion drams in September.

The volume of loans issued to non-residents by commercial banks at the end of December amounted to 191.3 billion drams, down from 219.4 billion drams in September. Meanwhile, loans issued to residents increased to 6.2 trillion drams, compared to 5.6 trillion drams in September. The volume of dram loans to residents was 4.25 trillion drams, up from 3.83 trillion drams in September, while the volume of foreign currency loans amounted to 1.96 trillion drams, compared to 1.82 trillion drams in September.

The volume of loans issued by credit institutions at the end of December totaled 352.3 billion drams, compared to 341 billion drams in September. Loans to non-residents amounted to 32.4 billion drams, up from 28.6 billion drams in September, while loans to residents totaled 319.9 billion drams, compared to 312.4 billion drams in September. The volume of dram loans to residents was 260.9 billion drams, compared to 247.5 billion drams in September, while foreign currency loans amounted to 59 billion drams, down from 64.9 billion drams in September.

In December, the interest rate on loans issued by commercial banks for terms of up to 1 year in drams was 13.17%, down from 13.68% in September. The interest rate on repo transactions of the Central Bank was 7%, compared to 7.50% in September. ($1 = 396.83 drams)
