Armenian banks account for more than 86% of the total volume of issued bonds

YEREVAN, March 20. /ARKA/. Thirteen Armenian banks have issued bonds worth $1.3 billion out of the total volume of $1.5 billion as of the end of 2024, Deputy Chairman of the Union of Banks of Armenia Ruben Melikyan said.

“That is, out of 18 banks in Armenia, 13 have issued bonds, most of which, of course, are listed on the Armenian Stock Exchange. This indicator has doubled compared to 2019,” Melikyan said at the 3rd Capital Markets Armenia conference organized by Cbonds.

He also said that 5 banks hold 62% of the assets and 64% of the loan portfolio of the entire banking system.

“This indicates that Armenia’s banking sector is quite competitive,” Melikyan said .
