The main mistake cyber fraud victims make in Armenia is providing credit card information – Central Bank

YEREVAN, October 22. /ARKA/. The most common mistake bank customers in Armenia make, which results in them becoming victims of fraud, is providing credit card information.

“The most common mistake bank customers make, which results in them becoming victims of fraud, is providing credit card information. My advice: don’t trust anyone in the digital world,” Komitas Stepanyan, head of the Central Bank of Armenia’s IT and Cybersecurity Directorate, told Novosti-Armenia.

He urged citizens to be reasonably suspicious. If you receive a call from an unfamiliar number claiming to be a bank employee and requesting information to resolve a problem, you should disconnect the call and contact the bank at the official number listed on its website or on your card.

“Remember that a bank employee will never ask you for personal information, especially over the phone. I urge you to be reasonably suspicious, not paranoid,” Stepanyan emphasized.

The Central Bank representative noted that since digitalization has “invaded” Armenian society so rapidly, citizens have developed a gap in awareness regarding basic cybersecurity rules. Stepanyan believes this should be taught to children, starting in kindergarten.
