Rosgosstrakh-Armenia registers 5,948 car insured accidents over six months

YEREVAN, July 8. / ARKA /. Rosgosstrakh-Armenia insurance company said it had registered 5,948 car insured accidents over the first six months of this year.

“On average 33 accidents were reported a day. The largest number of 1,095 accidents was reported in June. The average number of accidents in June was 37,” the bank said in a statement.

Over the six months of the year the company’s Contact Center handled 25,300 calls, with the greatest number occurring in June with an average 170 calls per day. The company says the number of accidents occurring at night hours has increased.

The company has already paid 667 million drams in insurance payments for 3,653 reported accidents. Overall it has so far received 3,720 applications. The average payment amounted to 201,000 drams.

From the beginning of the year the company registered 151 traffic accidents with bodily injuries (30 of them in June) and 5 cases of death. The company controls 35% of the car insurance market.

The mandatory insurance against physical damage caused to other cars and individuals became mandatory in the country on January 1, 2011 in accordance with a government-drafted law passed by the Armenian parliament last year. According to official numbers, there are about 430,000 vehicles in Armenia.

Rosgosstrakh insurance company was founded in 2008 May. It is part of Russian Rosgosstrakh group of companies. Its authorized capital is 2.13 billion drams (U.S. $ 6 million).
