Areximbank hands over one-time stipends to 25 winners of second competition

YEREVAN, July 15. /ARKA/ The Russian-owned Areximbank-Gazprombank Group held a special ceremony today to hand over one-time stipends to 25 winners of the second competition announced for Armenian students.

The amount of one-time stipend is from 40, 000 to 300, 000 drams. Nine students were awarded 40,000 dram stipend each, three students received 60,000 drams each, five students -100,000 drams, two -120,000 drams, one received-150,000 drams and another one received 200,000 drams. The main prize of 300,000 drams was handed over to Tigran Hakobian, a third-year student of Yerevan State University.

The bank had received over 500 electronic applications from students majoring both at state-run and private universities. The 25 winners had been selected by a scoring system and by a special commission in several categories like excellent academic progress, public activity and social status. The competition was announced on March 9 and ran through April 30 for fifth –year students as well as for second-fourth year bachelors and students seeking master’s degree from state-run and private universities.

The main goal of this special offer is to help young students who are demonstrating not only excellent academic achievements but who are also active in public and research areas.

At the ceremony Rouben Khachatryan, Deputy Director General of Areximbank – Gazprombank Group, congratulated the winners accentuating the priority of social actions with the bank. The student action has been conducted for the second time and will be ongoing for the next years by increasing both the budget and the number of scholars. In conclusion R. Khachatryan noted that Areximbank-Gazprombank Group provided for implementation of various activities and social programs under the slogan “Throughout the country – for the benefit of everyone”, adjusted for various population groups. The Bank has already taken actions in support of children with infantile cerebral paralysis and from disadvantaged families, as well as the veterans of the Great Patriotic War.

Areximbank-Gazprombank Group (formerly Areximbank) was established in 1998 to handle financial flows between Armenia and Russia. It is a principled member of VISA International and MasterCard International payment systems. In 2007 it joined Armenian ArCa payment system. The bank is owned fully by Russian Gazprombank.
