Resident foreign currency deposits at Armenian banks grow by 6.7 percent in 2014 December to 876.7 billion drams, central bank

YEREVAN, February 2. / ARKA /. Resident foreign currency deposits (RFCD) kept at Armenia-based commercial banks grew by 6.7 percent in 2014 December from the previous month to the equivalent of 876.7 billion drams, the Central Bank said in a statement posted on its official website.

According to the regulator, the deposits in Armenian banks in December 2014 surged by 23 percent when compared to December 2013. Foreign currency deposits accounted for 64.1 percent of all resident deposits, it said.

At the same time, deposits in Armenian national currency, the dram, fell by 5.6 percent from 2014 December, but they were 2.7 percent higher from December 2013 standing at 472.97 billion drams.

At the end of 2014 December the total amount of deposits in commercial banks of Armenia stood at 1.757.5 trillion drams, an increase of 1.6 percent from the previous month. They were 8.9 percent higher from 2013 December ($ 1 – 476.74 drams). -0-
