Bank cards now accepted for travel on Yerevan’s public transport

YEREVAN, December 2. /ARKA/. Starting now, passengers can pay for travel on all buses, minibuses, and trolleybuses in Yerevan using bank cards, announced the city’s vice-mayor, Suren Grigoryan, at a meeting at the city hall on Monday.

According to him, this option is currently available only for physical cards issued by local banks, with no commission fee.

“Commissions will be paid by the payment company TelCell, which is implementing this program,” Grigoryan said.

He noted that in the coming days the system will be tested, any issues will be identified and addressed, after which card payments will also be available on the metro.

In turn, Mayor Tigran Avinyan added that it will be possible to pay for travel on ground public transport using a mobile phone, provided it has the NFC function.

In Yerevan, since November 1, payment on buses is only possible via QR codes or 100-dram coins (drivers are prohibited from accepting other cash or providing change).
