Non-commercial remittances to Armenia in Jan.-Aug. surge by 8.3 percent to over $1 billion

YEREVAN, October 9. / ARKA /. The amount of individual non-commercial remittances to Armenia via banks in the first eight months of 2012 surged by 8.3 percent from a year earlier to over $1 billion, the Central Bank of Armenia said in a statement posted on its official website.

The amount of remittances from Armenia to other countries in January-August increased by 8.1 percent to $178.9 million, it said.  The net inflow of remittances saw an 8.36 percent rise to $843.6 million from $778.5 million in the first eight months of 2011
The Central Bank said in August alone some $182.4 million were remitted to Armenia, by almost 4 percent more from the previous July, while the money transfers from Armenia to other countries grew by 5.4 percent to $24 million.

The net inflow of remittances in August was $158.4 million, of which 95 percent came form Russia
Russia as always accounted for the largest net volume of  remittances to Armenia – over $770 million.  -0-
