Armenia’s consumer confidence index hikes to 41.6 in Q2

YEREVAN, August 1. /ARKA/. Armenia’s consumer confidence index rose by 0.8 percentage points to 41.6 in the first quarter compared to Q1, the Central Bank of Armenia reported.

The index dropped by 1.4 percentage points, compared to the second quarter of 2013, according to the report.

Indicator of the current conditions hiked by 1.7 percentage points to 33.3 in Q2 due to increase of two components, i.e. major procurement indicator and financial status change indicator.

In particular, major procurement indicator rose by 0.7p.p. to 52.7 in the reporting quarter, the indicator of financial status changes increased by 5.7 p.p. to 32.7 and the one used for assessing households against the general economic status reduced by 1.2p.p. to 14.5.

Indicator of future conditions slid by 0.2 p.p. to 49.9 in the reporting quarter compared to Q1.

A reduction is recorded in households’ expectations of major purchases (decrease of 0.8 p.p. to 55) and financial condition change expectations (decrease of 1.8 p.p. to 42.5) for the next quarter.

At the same time, family employment expectations decreased by 0.6p.p. to 52.3.

Consumer confidence index is a composite index reflecting perceptions of participants for economic changes (both improvements and deterioration).

Since 2005 the Central Bank of Armenia has been conducting polls among non-financial and financial organizations and households to assess changes in the current economic conditions, evaluate expectations, calculate and release composite economic indexes. –0–
