Armenian central bank issues commemorative coin dedicated to 125th birthday of Admiral Isakov

YEREVAN, August 23. /ARKA/. The Central Bank of Armenia has issued a commemorative coin dedicated to the 125th birthday of Admiral Isakov. the press office of the regulator reported on Friday. As many as 500 silver coins of 1,000 drams were issued.

On the head side of the coin, the Admiral Isakov Cruiser, a star on shoulder-boards, shop and an anchor are depicted. On the reverse side of the coin, the face of Admiral Isakov is depicted with a dirk and books of the mariner.

The author of sketches is Vardan Vardanyan. The coins have been minted in Lithuania.
Admiral Isakov or Hovhannes (Ivan) Ter-Isahakyan, prominent Armenian military commander, Admiral at the Soviet Union’s Navy and a Soviet Union Hero, was born in 1894 and died in 1967.

In the years of the World War II, he has contributed a great deal in the development of tactical plans of Black Sea and Baltic flotillas.

In addition to his navy service, Isakov had studied the military history and had taken part in composition and edition of collections of historical documents. He had also taken part in elaboration of combat rules of the Navy.

In 1947, Isakov was appointed as the head of the editorial board of the Naval Atlas in three volumes.

A military cruiser of Russia’s Navy was named for him and in the Republic of Artsakh, streets were named for him.
