Fifty billion drams refunded to mortgage borrowers this year under  preferential mortgage program

YEREVAN, November 17. /ARKA/. Since 2018, some 35,000 families in Armenia have benefited from a government-designed scheme that allows mortgage borrowers to repay the loan interest at the expense of their income tax .

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told the government session today that in 2022 some 35 billion drams were refunded to mortgage borrowers so that they could use the money to pay interests on their mortgage loans,

The head of the State Revenue Committee Rustam Badasyan added  that 50 billion drams have already been refunded to mortgage borrowers this year, and the amount is expected to rise to 53 billion drams by the end of the year.

Under the Armenian law, the home’s price should not be more than 55 million drams. Also, the refunds should not be more than 1.5 million drams per quarter. 

On November 17, the Armenian government postponed the approval of a draft decision calling for gradual abolition of the scheme, saying it needs to be elaborated.-0-
